The vessel had five holds, three forward of the engine room and two aft. Nos. 2 and 3 holds lower tween decks were arranged for the carriage of "refrigerated cargo in eight chambers, four in each hold.
 
The Eastern Star became a constructive total loss as a result of a fire which broke out on board between 1900-1915 hours on 20th July, 1969. The fire occurred during the  removal of the refrigeration installation in No. 2 and No. 3 hold in the Lower Tween Deck.
 
1969 sold to Jebshun Shipping Co., Hong Kong renamed Precious Diamond.
