 Setter IX

Launched in 1953 for United Whalers Ltd (Hector Whaling Ltd), London. Engined by Nat. Gas & Oil Eng Co Ltd of Ashton under Lyne, this vessel was the last whale catcher built on the River Clyde and had a short career sailing under the UK flag before being sold to Kyokuyo Hogei KK of Japan in 1960. Renamed Kyo Maru No. 17, her bloody career lasted well into the 1970s before world pressure to stop whaling apparently reduced the size of the Japanese whaling fleet.
