24th September, 1941, UBoat U-107 attacked the convoy SL-87 southwest of Madeira and reported three ships sunk. These ships were John Holt, Lafian and Dixcove.
 
The master, 36 crew members, eight gunners and six passengers from the Dixcove were picked up by the Ashby and the Norwegian steam merchant Fana, later transferred to the HMS Gorleston (Y 92) and HMS Lulworth (Y 60) and landed at Londonderry on 4th October, 1941.
 
Two crew members were lost.
