On the 20th May 1941 when on route from CuraƧao - Halifax - Bowling in Convoy HX-126 and carrying a cargo of 11,200 tons of benzine and kerosene when she was torpedoed by German submarine U-556 and sunk south of Cape Farewell.
 
The master, 48 crew members and four gunners were lost.
