 Empire Grace

Empire Grace was built in 1942 by Harland and Wolff Ltd, Belfast as a 13,478 ton vessel and operated by Shaw Saville & Albion Line. They renamed her Wairangi in 1946.

On August 14, 1963 the Wairangi grounded at the island of Kloevholmen some 25 miles from Stockholm. Two Swedish tugs went to ner assistance but she was later abandoned to the underwriters. Sixteen days later the ship was refloated and brought into Stockholm for repairs. At the time the Wairangi was on a charter to a Swedish company and was inward bound from Rio Grande to Stockholm.
She was subsequently bought by the British Iron and Steel Corp. who allocated her to The Shipbreaking Industries Ltd for demolition at Faslane, Scotland where she arrived 25th October 1936.
