Together with her sisters the Helenus, the Ixion and the Jason she was an "H" Class vessel built primarily for cargo but with accommodation for 35 first class passengers. She was launched by Mr Clement Attlee, the British Prime Minister, in July 1949 and completed in the following year for Ocean Steam Ship Companies Australia service.

After 22 years service she arrived at Kaohsiung, Taiwan on 5th July 1972 where she was broken up.
