This ship was painted in A.T.L. colors and chartered from Elder Dempster & Co. from 1890 to 1893. In August of 1891 her ownership was transferred to the line's African Steamship Company. In September of 1891 the New York Times reported that she was one of the four vessels "most likely to be placed on the new line" (service) then being organized by the A.T.L. from New York. By 1892 however she was back on the A.T.L.'s London to Baltimore service with occasional voyages to New Orleans for the African Steamship Company. On the 5th May, 1894 she was chartered to the Dominion Line for their Avonmouth, Quebec, Montreal service.

Bound from Montreal to Avonmouth with cattle and general cargo she drove ashore in thick fog in Dunlough Bay, County Cork on 17th November, 1896, with the loss of nine of her crew. She was under the command of a Captain Williams at the time and under charter to the Dominion Line.
