Sister of the Venetian and the Sicillian she was launched on 26th March 1860 and delivered on the 1st April. When her charter to P&O was terminated in 1868 she was transferred to the Portugal route to replace the Calpe.
 
In 1869, during a voyage from Corunna to Lisbon, she was wrecked after being blown ashore in Corcubion Bay near Cape Finisterre.
