 War Jasmine

Monte Negro  was a Spanish Cargo Steamer of 5,253 tons built in 1919 by Harland & Wolff Ltd, Govan, for The Shipping Controller ( Field Line (Cardiff) Ltd) as the War Jasmine.
 
She had several owners. In 1919 she was purchased by Sutherland SS Co Newcastle and renamed Cromarty. In 1920 she was purchased by Western Counties Shipping Co London and renamed Highmead. In 1922 she was purchased by Cia Naviera Sota & Aznar Bilbao, Spain and renamed Astoi-Mendi. In 1939 she was purchased by Naviera Aznar SA Bilbao, Spain and renamed Monte Negro.
 
On the 22nd December 1950 she ran aground and was wrecked on Takodari breakwater when outward for Grangemouth with a cargo of bauxite.
