The ā€˜Nā€™ Type fabricated ship with straight frames was introduced in 1917 to simplify the construction of Standard ships and to utilize the capacities of bridge building companies who had very little of their normal work to do during the war.
The fabricated type was a straight line ship with the sides being nearly vertical except for the ends, the straight sides being carried down to the bilge which was cut off at an angle of 45 degrees. To add to the odd outline the stern was cut off square, this giving the section of a triangle.
