John Gillhespie was born in April 1896 in Hampshire, his father, Joshua, was 37 and his mother, Precilla, was 34. He had one brother and two sisters. He died on 29 July 1917 at the age of 21, and was buried in Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
