Wesley Best (bottom) and Tommy Lowry(top), two of the most highly respected members of the Quality Control Department, retired on the same day in August. Both came into the firm as joiners, Wesley in 1932 and Tommy in 1941, and both in later years became Quality Control Inspectors. Wesley ended his career as a Senior Inspector. There was a joint farewell party for the two men when they retired on August 28th, 1981 during which Manager Dougie Liddell made presentations to them on behalf of their workmates. Wesley received a cassette-radio and a silver plated tray for his wife, while Tommy received a portable television set.
